American Bar Association Issues Resolution on HIV Reform

By Venita Ray

Thank you to the American Bar Association (ABA) for issuing a resolution on the key role of social determinants of health on HIV, the need to stop criminalizing people living with HIV and more.

The ABA’s AIDS Coordinating Committee resolves, “That the American Bar Association urges governments and relevant private stakeholders to both recognize and work to reduce, through appropriate legal and policy means, the social determinants of health that drive the HIV/AIDS epidemic, such as poverty, stigma, discrimination, and racism; housing, food, and transportation insecurity; over-criminalization of HIV non-disclosure; and misinformation about HIV transmission risk.”

This is a tremendous stride in fighting the HIV epidemic.
